Take Away His Armor And He Is Just As Deadly...

Hot Toys Iron Man 3 - Tony Stark (The Mechanic)

The folks at Hot Toys have done it again with the release of their Iron Man 3: Tony Stark (The Mechanic) sixth scale figure. This amazing figure is based on one of the most thrilling scenes from Iron Man 3 in which Tony needs to count on his wits to achieve his mission without the aid of his technologically-advanced armor.

The Tony Stark Mechanic figure comes packaged within the recent standard shoebox that almost all recent Hot Toys releases have shared. The front of the box features an oversized image of Tony Stark printed in blue and grey hues atop a dark navy blue background. The figure name and Iron Man movie logo are showcased on a lighter blue tag that wraps around to the right side panel of the box. The back of the box features production rights and specs while the cardboard insert features a hazy blue photo of a table covered in Tony’s homemade gadgets and weapons with production credits underneath.

While the lackluster package design leaves much to be desired, the figure it houses within is the real treasure. This new version of Tony Stark depicts the man inside the suit wearing casual apparel consisting of a black zip-up hoodie with working zippers on the sleeves, a white AIM sleeveless top and dark blue jeans. The figure also comes with tons of movie-accurate accessories allowing collectors to recreate scenes from the Mandarin mansion invasion scene.

One of the coolest accessories included with this figure is the fully functioning back pack. It features working zippers all throughout and a working clasp on the strap making it easy to store all of Tony’s handmade toys within.

This figure borrows the same head sculpt from the deluxe Tony Stark (Armor Test Version) figure only this one features battle damage details on it. The head sculpt captures the likeness of actor Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark amazingly well and features an amazingly detailed paint job by artist JC Hong. Another awesome detail on this figure is the inclusion of a light-up reactor core imbedded in Tony’s chest. This is an awesome little extra that collectors have been dying to have since the first Iron Man film and can be utilized to kit bash a figure of Tony based on the memorable Mark I forging scene from the first film.

The LED light features on Tony’s chest and can easily be turned on and off via a switch located in the middle of the back. The reactor core light shines a bright blue and can be seen through Tony’s sleeveless shirt giving the figure a very screen-accurate and realistic look. The repulsor light on the armored right hand lights up nice and bright and can be turned on or off via a tiny switch located on the forearm.

Collectors can customize this new version of Tony to display him in casual clothing from the exterior mansion invasion or the more adrenaline-fueled scenes when he recovers some of his armor after being captured. You can easily switch out Tony’s right forearm and replace it with an armored limb for that awesome half man-half machine look from the film. The armored forearm attaches to the removable elbow piece magnetically making it very easy to rotate in any direction to achieve the pose you want. The left leg armor slides easily onto lower leg by removing the sneaker from the ankle peg and and then replacing it with the armored boot. The armored limbs are painted to resemble the extensive damage the suit sustained during the surprise attack on Tony’s mansion and provides a visually pleasing contrast to the casually clothed figure

The figure features over 30 points of articulation and all the joints are nice and tight making it easy for the figure to stay in which ever pose you place it in providing collectors with endless dynamic display options.

In a nutshell, this new "Mechanic" version of Tony Stark will make a great addition to anyone’s Iron Man collection and is an absolute must-have for Marvel fans and collectors. With the arsenal of Mark suits out now and those scheduled for release soon, this Tony Stark figure offers a nice contrast to anyone’s Iron Man sixth scale collection.
