Dark Horse's latest assortment, "Series 7" if you're counting these figures as they are released, is another small wave. However, much like the June release of the deluxe Hodor and Bran, Series 7's two lone figures are not only large, but they are also quite impressive.
Without question, my favorite figure of the two is Sandor Clegane, better known as The Hound. The Hound wasn't looking too well the last time we saw him with Arya Stark back in Season 4. The hulking warrior was pretty much left for dead after his brutal fight with Brienne of Tarth, coincidentally the other figure in this wave. Is The Hound truly dead? I'm thinking not. Remember what happened to his equally massive brother, The Mountain, and how that guy still managed to survive. Regardless, The Hound ranks high on the badass-o-meter carrying not one, but TWO massive long swords. His armor is equally impressive, featuring a helmet that resembles the character's namesake. What's really neat with this figure is that the visor on the hound helmet actually opens and closes, allowing for two very cool and intimidating looks. Measuring a towering 9-inches tall, The Hound is Hodor huge.
Brienne of Tarth is also no slouch. Played by Gwendoline Christie (soon to be Star Wars famous as Captain Phasma), the female warrior is fearlessly devoted to her just causes. I really enjoyed her story arc with Jaime Lannister and look forward to her (hopefully) kicking Ramsay Bolton's sadistic butt. This 8 1/2-inch tall figure depicts the Amazonian-like Brienne clutching her Valyrian steel longsword, Oathkeeper, a beautifully sculpted weapon. I should note here that the swords for both figures - The Hound and Brienne - feature blades that are separate attachments. This is done to insure they don't get broken in shipping and also guarantees a straight blade when attached to the figure. Aside from her cool sword, Dark Horse also did an excellent job on Brienne's sword sheath and armor. The ornate sheath really stands out with the red belt attachment and her armor - a mix of bluish plate mail and leather skirt - look phenomenal.
Both Brienne of Tarth and The Hound are must-have figures for Game of Thrones fans. Releasing the two warriors at the same time was a brilliant move on Dark Horse's part. The larger size of these figures, paired with their immense show popularity and knock-out sculpts, makes this Dark Horse's strongest Game of Thrones figure release yet. Highly recommended.
