It's all in the suitcase...
For the past couple of years now, Hot Toys has been producing one amazing Iron Man
collectible after another and they just keep getting better with each
new release. The latest 1:6th scale collectible figure to join the Iron
Man line is none other than the most complex of all the Iron Man suits
from Iron Man 2, the Mark V. This one-of-kind armor cleverly transforms into a compact briefcase - handy for getting Tony Stark out of unexpected jams.
The package design on the latest Iron Man suit follows in the same
footsteps as all previous Iron Man 2 releases. It features an attractive
holo-foil image of the Mark V suit on the outer sleeve which slides off
to reveal the closed window box inside. From here collectors get a
clear view of the actual Iron Man Mark V action figure and all its
accessories. The main box is designed to mimic the colors of the Mark V
armor with silver and red prominently featured.
The figure and accessories are stored within various layers of plastic
trays that interlock with each other to make the package as compact as
possible (like the suit itself) all while protecting the figure and
parts as much as possible.
The Mark V armor is the most complex and detailed of all the Iron Man
armors and Hot Toys has truly done an amazing job in capturing every
minimal detail in three-dimensional form. The Mark V collectible is a
2-in-1 combo which includes interchangeable parts to recreate the
regular and battle-damaged looks from the film. Due the compact nature
of this mech suit, the Mark V is a much lighter armor and thus the
figure is less bulky in comparison to other Mark suits. The retractable
hinges on the back of the arms, legs and spine are incredibly detailed
and movie-accurate.
The figure includes an interchangeable chest piece and left arm that
feature the battle-damage inflicted by Whiplash's electrified whips
during the Monaco race in the film. The damage on these parts is
rendered incredibly on the chest piece and arms with torn metal shards
and exposed wiring all around. The sculpted details on the Mark V
figure are simply jaw-dropping to say the least. As an added bonus, this
figure also includes the Mark V in its suitcase mode.
The paint application on this amazing figure is ingenious and looks
amazing. Every single rivet, hinge, armor plate on the Mark V is colored
to perfection. This comes as no surprise from a company that has easily
become the standard in 1:6 scale collectible figures. The metallic red
and silver parts of the Mark V contrasts strikingly well against one
another.
The Mark V figure is not as poseable as other Iron Man figures mainly
due to the nature of its compact armor design. Since this figure is a
lot less bulky in comparison to the Mark III, IV and VI, the
articulation on the upper body is a bit more limited. This figure does
not have a rotating waist but features a ball-socket mid torso which
allows some dynamic posing. The shoulders are on a ball-socket joint and
the elbows are hinged. Both the battle-damaged and regular left arm are
fully articulated which provides many posing options in both the
battle-damaged and regular modes. The Mark V has a ball-socket head and
crotch as well and the knees and ankles are on hinge joints.
The Mark V also includes a decorative light-up display base aside from the following accessories:
- LED-lighted eyes and Micro ARC reactor on chest (white light, battery operated)
- LED-lighted left and right arms (white light, battery operated)
- One (1) additional interchangeable battle damaged left arm
- One (1) additional interchangeable battle damaged chest armor
- Six (6) pieces of interchangeable palms including:
- One (1) pair of palms with movable fingers, improved articulations and light-up repulsors (white light, battery operated)
- One (1) pair of fists
- One (1) piece of battle damaged left open palm
- One (1) piece of battle damaged left relaxed palm
- One (1) suitcase
- One (1) figure stand with Mark V nameplate and the movie logo
- One (1) additional square-shaped figure stand with LED light-up function (white light, battery operated)
Hot Toys' 1:6th scale Iron Man figures just keep getting better with
every new release and the Mark V is proof of this. Picking up this
amazing figure to add to your collection should be a no-brainer as it is
simply one of the most unique Iron Man armors released so far. The Hot
Toys Mark V collectible figure is available now for purchase from Sideshow Collectibles priced at $209.99... and trust me when I say it is worth every penny.
