We can’t get enough zombies, and McFarlane Toys satisfies our need for gore with great products celebrating both the comic book and TV universes of The Walking Dead. At New York Toy Fair 2016 the toy maverick showed off a slew of new and upcoming toys across various lines, and we’ve got the photos to prove it! Rick and Michonne will be among the headliners in the new 7 inch line of figures in the Color Tops Collector Series (featuring top notch sculpts, about 14 points of articulation serving the pose and look, and a display base in a collector friendly color-coded box for around $17), and Travis joins them as the debut Fear the Walking Dead figure.
The next resin release from the Walking Dead is Negan from the comics, and he looks absolutely unstoppable swinging his signature weapon Lucille atop a massive pile of walkers. There are nine zombies in total and on and among them you’ll find all sorts of easter eggs referring to things the villain has done in the comics. This statue is also the first to incorporate magnets for super easy assembly.
Other TWD figures on display were the previously announced TV Series 9 (Beth, T-Dog, Dale, Daryl, Michonne, and Water Walker), 10 inch Glenn (coming in the Fall), and a 5 inch deluxe Daryl with motorcycle. On the construction side the next wave will take fans back to the beginning with Atlanta-themed sets including Rick on Horse (with a second set of rearing legs), Jersey Barrier with sandbags, and the Atlanta Alley (with Glenn and a horde of zombies around a fire escape). As with previous sets you can mix and match those releases to make a larger Atlanta scene. There will also be a small set called Road to Terminus with part of the train tracks.
Last but certainly not least was a prototype of the next resin statue, and the first TV-based release in that line, Daryl! Everyone’s favorite hillbilly turned hero is captured in a mind-blowing presentation, riding his motorcycle through a clump of zombies as he blasts one with his crossbow one-handed. Both wheels churn through another walker each, and of course the base is littered with more dead. The display piece featured Daryl wearing his sunglasses, and the statue will come with an interchangeable face without them. When Norman Reedus saw this prototype he said that it was “the most badass thing” he’s ever seen!
In a separate area where no photos were allowed we got to see even more starting with the Comic Book Series 5. That will include the first comic-based Shane (comes with an alternate zombie head), Negan in prison uniform with bucket, Glenn with hat and axe, and Lydia with alternate filthy head. It appears as though all four figures may come with accessories of the Whisperers’ decorations: heads mounted on poles. The Walking Dead will be a major part of the launch of McFarlane’s new segment of “Big Heads,” small constructible figures that come with both in-scale and oversized heads.
