Sideshow Exclusive Superman Sixth Scale Figure

DC Comics' Man of Steel In 12" Action Figure Form...

Sideshow Exclusive Superman Sixth Scale Figure

There's no denying the most popular superhero on the globe is Superman.

His image and symbol can be found on everything from t-shirts and shoes to bed sheets and towels; in fact, you can even find Superman's likeness on shelving units, bumper stickers and even Bandaids -- and in every major continent! While there might be countless action figures of Big Blue out there, there's always room for more...especially if those figures are as well sculpted, impressively detailed and fashionably articulated as Sideshow Collectible's new Superman Sixth Scale Figure.

The figure comes packaged in a beautiful, collector-friendly box with a simple yet bold front and an impressive piece of comic art on the back. The interior features another piece of comic artwork behind which the figure and all parts and accessories are firmly held in place via form-fitted, clear plastic. This ensures the figure is received by each collector ready to take out and display or stay stored in the secure packaging.

There's no denying Superman's recognizable costume: the blue leggings and long-sleeve shirt; the red boots, shorts and cape; all accented by a yellow belt and the red and yellow "S" symbol across his broad chest. The costume here is made of a durable, stretch material which conforms to the highly articulated, muscular 12" scale body underneath. The 12" figure features all of the articulation fans have come to expect and love: ball-in-socket neck, ball-joint shoulders and hips, twist biceps and thighs, hinge knees and elbows, pin wrists (which pivot and twist) and a twisting waist and socket-style chest. The ankles joints are a part of the boot and ensure better articulation than a foot inside of a boot; thanks Sideshow!

As far as accessories go, The Last Son of Krypton includes an impressive display base which provides both a variety of standing pose options as well as an extendable arm which reaches vertically into the sky to allow collectors to display The Metropolis Marvel in mid-flight or floating (above).

The figure also includes three different head sculpts: one serious (above), one casually smiling (above) and one featuring smoldering, red-hot heat vision eyes...or, as I like to call them, Superman's "angry" eyes (below). Personally, I think the "angry eyes" look best and give the Man of Steel a look of raw power, determination and strength. The small, red sculpted waffs of heat vision drifting off his eye sockets look like something right off of the comic page (below).

The figure also includes a variety of hand sculpts: Right and left fists, right and left flight hands, right and left gesture hands and - no doubt a favorite of many fanboys - a right "thumbs up" hand. Obviously, with seven different hands, the combinations one can create are varied. Again, my personal favorite is pairing the "angry eyes" head sculpt and the two fists together to make Supes look menacing, powerful and ready to rumble (below).

The Exclusive Superman figure includes the always appreciated Sideshow Exclusive accessory; here, an additional left hand holding the severed head of Superman villain Metallo. The robotic head includes an articulated jaw - a great detail - and looks awesome. Again, paired with the angry eyes, this is one Superman few villains would want to mess with!

Overall, if you're a die-hard fan of Superman and you've been wanting to add a classic-looking Superman Sixth Scale Figure to your collection, you won't find any better than this one. The sculpting on the heads, hands and accessories is detailed and well done, the body is well designed and articulated, the base provides plenty of display options and the costume is well made and fits the 12" body well. There are plenty of Superman figures out there in a wide variety of sizes; if you're looking for one in 1:6 scale, look no further!
