Even though I own several NECA Quarter Scale action figures, I still can't get over just how big they are. 18 inches big. That doesn't sound all that grand in writing, but seeing one of these figures in person - especially displayed next to smaller figures (which is about every other toy out there) - is a real eye opener. NECA's latest license to receive this towering toy treatment is Pacific Rim kicking off with the film's starring hero robot, the Gipsy Danger. While the Gipsy Danger is not even close to being true "Quarter Scale" (it'd be a 65 foot tall toy!) - it's still 18 inches big. The Gipsy Danger looks great alongside NECA's other Quarter Scale offerings (Predator vs. Jaeger!) and truly commands one's toy display. Fully articulated, the 18" Gipsy Danger includes twin chain blades and a cool light-up feature and retails for around $84.99 (act now if you want one, many retailers have already sold out!).

Christopher Reeve’s portrayal of Superman is arguably one of cinema’s greatest movie comic book heroes and even in 2013, has not yet been undone exactly. But that’s probably because Sideshow Collectibles has released the man of steel, Superman (Evil Version) sixth scale figure as one of Hot Toys’ 2013 Toy Fair Exclusives. This Superman III figure is available right now and shipping immediately for $214.99. If you think the price point is a little high, you should be reminded that this is a Toy Fair exclusive and indeed produced in fewer quantities. And don’t forget that Hot Toys is a proud supporter of the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation to advance the research of spinal cord injury and improve the quality of life for people living with paralysis.

WizKids The Hobbit Journey To The Lonely Mountain Strategy Game

Alongside long-running games like HeroClix and other products like miniature figures, dice games, puzzle games, and more, WizKids Games continues to make a name for itself in the board game world. We here at Figures.com have greatly enjoyed their previous efforts like the Batman Gotham City Strategy Game and Trains and Stations, so we were very excited when they announced a tie in with the current Hobbit films in The Hobbit Journey To The Lonely Mountain Strategy Game! While only the first movie is out we know the basic storyline from the book, so for some people this would count as spoilers (though it’s hard to call it that since Tolkien’s masterpiece came out in 1937). Anyway, the game follows Bilbo’s journeys to the titular Lonely Mountain, and is semi-cooperative as player controlling various evil forces seek to stop him and accomplish their own specific goals. There’s a nice mix of strategic movement, token stacking, combat, and other familiar mechanics that make it both fast-paced and fun. Just watch out for those goblins!

 Hot Toys is best known for their hyper-realistic 1:6th scale Movie Masterpiece action figures (MMS), however the company has experimented in other formats, such as their adorable Cosbabies and the occassional statue and bust. More recently, Hot Toys has been aggressively branching out to include towering quarter scale figures (QS), 12 inch die-cast (MMSD), and the subject of this review, a new Power Pose Series (PPS). Launching with their ever-popular Iron Man movie license, Hot Toys' Power Pose Series is the odd marriage of statue and figure. Cast in 1:6th scale, each Power Pose figure has the size, feel and detail of a Hot Toys MMS action figure, but the dynamic, near static "Power Pose" is more indicant of a statue.

Throughout this year Kotobukiya has been releasing the initial members of DC Comics’ New 52 Justice League, the powerful “Big 7” of Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Flash, Aquaman, and Cyborg. While the Japanese toy and statue company is perhaps best known for its ARTFX series of 1/6 figures, these new superheroes are captured in the new 1/10 ARTFX+ scale bringing them to you in a smaller package (and for less money) but still packed with great sculpts and decos. The Justice League series is now complete with the final three members we’ll be taking a look at today: Batman, Wonder Woman, and Cyborg! Like the rest of the team these three are based on the Justice League redesign by Geoff Johns and Jim Lee, specifically recreating Lee’s iconic image of the team but with an added Koto flair.

Everyone has their favorite Star Wars characters and the action figures they represent. Boba Fett has always been my main man, but the Imperial Stormtroopers and their many variations run a close second, in particular, the arctic assault Snowtroopers. While seen all too briefly in The Empire Strikes Back, their explosive debut with Lord Vader marked an epic conclusion to the Battle of Hoth - arguably my favorite scene in the entire Star Wars Saga. Where the Prequels went crazy with color, the Snowtroopers of the Original Trilogy stood out from their stark white generic cousins with menacing goggled hoods and half-skirts. At this time in the film series, the Snowtrooper was the most radical Stormtrooper design to be introduced, one that forever made a impression on this fan's mind. These weren't just any Stormtrooper. These were Commando Elite!
