Fun Figures With A Retro 8-Bit Design...

SD Toys The Big Bang Theory Pixels

The last time SD Toys visited the geek comedy The Big Bang Theory, the Spanish toy maker had released more traditional figures of Sheldon and Howard. Now SD Toys is presenting the entire cast of the hit sitcom as part of their new line of Pixel mini figures! First unveiled at last year's New York Comic Con , the Pixel collection transforms popular TV and movie characters into blocky 8-bit looking figures. It's a fun, retro approach to toy collectibles, the line debuting with two waves of Big Bang Theory figures, and later expanding to include such other popular film's as The Matrix and The Warriors.

As mentioned, The Big Bang Theory Pixels collection launches the line with two sets. Housed in a long rectangular window box, each pack offers four Pixel characters. Fans of the show get a clear look at all they are getting, while the back of the pack provides the character's names, along with a look at the other assortment. Collect them all!

Featured in the front lower left-hand corner is the new Pixel brand logo, along with which numbered set you have. Overall the packaging for the series is smart and tight, with everything you need to know about what you're getting right on the pack.

Set #1 includes: Sheldon wearing his Green Lantern shirt, his girlfriend Amy, his roommate Leonard, and Penny, Sheldon and Leonard's across-the-hall neighbor.

Set #2 brings back Sheldon, now wearing his red Flash shirt, Rajesh Ramayan "Raj" Koothrappali, stuck in the '80s Howard, and his wife Bernadette.

Each Pixel figure measures 3-inches tall is constructed of a nice and hard, hollow plastic. As their name implies, the Pixel characters all have a blocky, 8-bit video game appearance to them. The cartoony caricatures really work well with the design and the use of color is simple and bold. What's really great about these figures is the many ways you can display them.

While they don't interlock like a building brick, they do stack very well. I had a blast playing (*gasp*) around with these toys creating various pillars and pyramids of sitcom geekdom.

SD Toys' The Big Bang Theory Pixel collection is currently available in select European markets and Brazil. The company is working hard on getting these to North America. Let's hope that happens as Pixels are a very fun toy design. While they won't appeal to everyone, those looking for a fresh and creative new way to display their favorite properties will find much to love about Pixels. SD Toys has a lot more Pixels on the way too including Vampire Diaries, the Matrix, the Warriors, Mazinger, DC Comics, Back to the Future, Blues Brothers, and more.
