Funko SDCC13 Exclusive Adventure Time POP!

With a whopping 57 exclusives at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, Funko was one of the most crowded booths with the most activity. Attendees couldn’t wait to get their hands on unique bobbleheads and vinyl figures from properties as varied as Disney, Alien, My Little Pony, Masters of the Universe, TMNT, The Walking Dead, DC Comics, and so many more. In fact, it was hard not to find something in their exclusives collection that you didn’t like. For me, that came down to two POP! figures from one my latest obsessions, Adventure Time! Available for $15 each were Zombie Jake and Glow in the Dark Finn, which we’ll take a look at here today.

Unless you’ve been living in a cave for the last couple years you’ve seen Funko’s POPs and are familiar with their packaging. Cute figures deserve cute little boxes, and that’s the delivery system in place here. The packaging for the SDCC exclusives are nearly identical to the standard ones with a couple distinctions. Each figure has a window on the front and one side panel so you can see it, and the white box is emblazoned with a ton of graphics from the series to the property, the character’s name and collector number, other figures in the series from the same property, and more. Finn shares the same number as his standard release version, while Zombie Jake gets his own. Of course, both have a Comic-Con Exclusive sticker on the front to show just how dedicated you were to get it!

Both Finn and Zombie Jake utilize the same mold as their previous standard release. They’re captured in Funko’s stylized silly form, a blocky figure/head with super-deformed proportions. Finn has a giant head on a tiny body and is perfectly representative of the character with his trademark hat, big eyes, uneven teeth, sword in hand, and backpack. The figure is articulated at the neck, and of course this exclusive version features a glow in the dark white hat! Zombie Jake again reuses the original sculpt of that character, and in this case is a marshmallow-shaped body with sculpted ears, saucer eyes, snout, and tail; from the body extend short legs and long, wavy arms. Unlike the first version with its white eyes and orange body, the Zombie is greenish-gray with purple veins, green eyes, and a slobbering, tongue protruding mouth graphic.

Adventure Time fans (like me!) will get a big kick out of these figures, and if you missed Comic-Con you can still pick these up on the secondary market for not too high a markup. Alternatively, the regular versions are still available, and Funko just announced another upcoming series of Adventure Time characters!
